Warriors giving back to Bayview

Last month, City of Dreams held a celebration for the upgraded site on behalf of the Warrior’s Dubs Community and NBA Cares! Just a couple of months ago, City of Dreams was selected as the candidate for the annual NBA Cares Legacy Project sponsored by Rakuten.  Committed to improving the lives of underserved Bay Area residents, Warriors in the Community actively initiate projects with the community’s well-being in mind.  In a very short amount of time, the Dubs Community team replaced our outdated kitchen, worn down basketball court, replaced our bullet-hole windows, and fixed our air conditioning system.  The youth were surprised to see their safe space renewed and even more ecstatic over the Warrior-themed basketball court!

We had the opportunity to celebrate with the community and with the players themselves.  Gary Payton II, Andrew Wiggins, Damion Lee, and Johnathan Kuminga joined us for the party and engaged with our youth.  The day commenced with a ribbon cutting ceremony to honor the teams that invested in us.  Our Executive Director, Jarae Clark, was the scissor-holder.  Our kids, with special passes and gifts waiting for them supplied by the Warriors team, participated in basketball drills on their new court, video games against the players themselves, and wellness workshops alongside our famous guests.  Food was supplied by Smoke Soul Kitchen, a women and minority owned catering company.   Among the attendees were Cheryl Hurd of NBC, SF Public Defender Manu Raju, the Warriors media team, and the Rakuten team.

We want to extend so much gratitude to the Warriors for selecting us as candidates for NBA75 Legacy Project, and providing a much-needed update to our space.  The celebration offered our kids an experience to be remembered throughout their lives and perhaps created life-long fans as a result! Thank you to the teams that made this possible.  To many more core childhood experiences for the Bayview youth!
