National Volunteer Week with City of Dreams

City of Dreams is celebrating our community of volunteers by hosting an OPEN Volunteer Garden Event this Earth Day, April 22nd! We want to welcome old and new supporters into our garden for some much-needed harvesting, cultivating, pruning, and picking!  Individuals, teams, friend groups, and more are all invited! Connect with Bayview locals, our spunky garden-loving youth, and nature this Earth Day.  Sign up!

Time: 10am-1pm, Saturday, April 22nd

Why is volunteering important for City of Dreams?

We encourage our youth to participate in all of our program sectors, but we cannot always expect 100% attendance when school and family are always a priority.  This is why volunteers are essential to keeping us on track. Our garden requires year-round cultivation and maintenance in order to perform at its best.  The youth’s Earn2Learn program only lasts 6 weeks at a time, leaving the remaining months in need of outside help.

We open the Oakdale site to corporate volunteers, team-building initiatives, and individual participants looking to get their hands dirty in our garden.  No gardening skills are required–we will provide you with the tools to be a great garden volunteer.

In 2022, we tracked the total number of volunteered hours and translated them into monetary value.  With 149 volunteers and a total of 84.5 hours helping us; in total, City of Dreams volunteers donated $21,940.88 worth of time and effort.

Our Volunteer opportunities are not limited to gardening.  Our entire mentorship program is built on selfless volunteers who dedicate themselves to our youth for a minimum of 2 years. Mentors have the option to start off as “group-mentors,” creating friendships with all the kids until a connection is made and the pair connect in a way that deserves a 1:1 matching.  Learn more about mentorship here.  Other opportunities for volunteering pop up throughout the year, follow us on our socials or subscribe to our newsletter to stay updated!

City of Dreams would like to celebrate all the individuals who have selflessly contributed to our mission over the years.  Eradicating poverty involves strategy, will power, and the meaningful aid of others. City of Dreams is lucky to be surrounded by allies who believe in this goal.  Continuous community support creates a foundation for friendships, boosted confidence, new experiences, and ultimately, soothes the trauma facing our youth.  As a small nonprofit, we thrive on volunteer support!

In honor of National Volunteer Month and National Volunteer Week (April 16-22), we hope to see old and new faces at our Earth Day gardening event!

Thank you to our volunteers, you contribute so much to the progress of Bayview youth!
