City of Dreams: Executive Director

Summary
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will serve as the CEO of City of Dreams, holding overall strategic and operational responsibility for the organization, furthering its mission and growing a beloved youth mentorship organization to impact San Francisco’s most challenged communities.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
Uphold ongoing programmatic excellence, meaningful program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance, administration, communications, and systems
Actively engage and energize City of Dreams volunteers, families, board members, partnering organizations, alumni, and funders
Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction
Lead, coach, develop, and retain our nimble and resourceful staff to best serve our youth
Foster effective teamwork between the Board and the Executive Director and between the Executive Director and staff
Champion City of Dreams as the foremost mentoring and youth development program in Bayview Hunters Point and Sunnydale
Fundraising & Communications
Drive all fundraising activities to support existing program operations and expansion, with an emphasis on grants and major gifts
Deepen and refine all aspects of communications — from web presence to alumni and external relations
Ensure effective systems to track City of Dreams’ progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure impacts that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents
Partnerships
Collaborate with staff in building or strengthening relationships with external partners for youth programming and volunteer recruitment
Establishing relationships with funders and community and government leaders who will help us leverage our resources to make an impact
Cultivate an external-facing presence that publishes and communicates program benefits and impacts
Finance, HR and Admin
Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations
Coach and mentor staff as appropriate to enable their best performance
Recruit, interview and select staff that have the right technical and personal abilities to help further the organization's mission
Ensure that all staff receives an orientation to the organization and that appropriate training is provided
Implement a performance management process for all staff which includes monitoring the performance of staff on an on-going basis and conducting an annual performance review
Process payroll and other accounts payable
Ensure proper bookkeeping, tax reporting, entity registration, etc.
Properly acknowledge all gifts received
Qualifications
The ED will be thoroughly committed to City of Dreams’ mission, ideally with proven skill in organizations helping underserved youth and communities. All candidates should hold proven leadership, fundraising, and relationship management experience.
Specific requirements include:
Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years in nonprofit management
Transparent and high integrity leadership
Proven fundraising skill with willingness and ability to build, cultivate and close a prospect pipeline
Ability to provide specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
Unwavering commitment to quality youth programs and meaningful program evaluation
Solid budget management skills, including preparation, analysis and reporting
Strong marketing, public relations, or business development experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
Adapts well to changes in assignment and priorities with the ability to respond effectively to new information, changing conditions, and unexpected obstacles
Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Passionate, idealistic, positive in attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
